The Financial Regulator is responsible for the regulation and supervision of Head Offices of reinsurance undertakings and Special Purpose Reinsurance Vehicles (SPRV) authorised in Ireland.
Reinsurance means the activity consisting of accepting risks ceded by an insurance undertaking, or by another reinsurance undertaking, and includes reassurance.
There are three types of reinsurance undertaking:
As of December 2008 there were approximately 120 reinsurance undertakings and SPRV’s authorised in Ireland.
